âVeggie Village is a community garden where we grow organic produce for Interfaith’s pantry,â said Jenni Fisher, Veggie Village coordinator. “Everyone is happy when they’re out in the garden. And I love it. It’s the best place to be.”
There are 30 active volunteers who have plots and they donate 75% of what they grow to those who need it.
âWe had this idea and we couldn’t let it go,â said Linda Evans, one of the founders of the garden. “Thousands of pounds of this magnificent product have been distributed to pantries and senior apartment complexes in the Woodlands. There are people who are hungry.”
There is social housing in each of The Woodlands villages. The need is still there.
âIt is food for the soul, as well as for the stomachs of our customers,â said master gardener Gail Sones, âTwo of my passions are providing food for those who are food insecure, as well as gardening, so being a village vegetarian allows me to do both.
An idea planted more than ten years ago has borne fruit for those who care for it and for those who receive it.
