See garden ideas come to life with County Kane’s Master Gardeners

Disconnect and step outside to see inspiring gardens at the Kane County Master Gardener Idea Garden in St. Charles.

This summer, join these University of Illinois Extension volunteers to explore creative concepts and ask questions every Tuesday, 9 a.m. to 11 a.m., weather permitting.

Learn about straw gardening that begins with a 10 day conditioning process for straw bales, involving watering and fertilization.

“The Idea Garden is back this year and, once again, it showcases innovative designs and new ideas that you can replicate at home,” said Sarah Fellerer, Master Gardener Program Coordinator. “Visit the garden to learn about sensory and elevated gardens, native plants, insect habitats, growing garlic and products rich in phytonutrients, and more. Additionally, the garden includes an Olympic-themed herb, ground cover and flower bed. “

The Kane County Master Gardener Idea Garden is located at 3480 Route 38, at the intersection with Peck Road, in St. Charles. Visitors can enter via the driveway from Route 38. You can also follow the Garden of Ideas at www.facebook.com/KaneMGIdeaGarden.

This year’s project includes ideas and tips for:

• raised beds

• Straw bale plantations

• Insect habitats

• Gardens with garlic or products rich in phytonutrients

• A sensory patch

• Native species

• An Olympic-themed herb, ground cover and flower bed
